A NEW Keighley facility set up to bring important vocational skills back to the area is on the hunt for apprentices.

The Centre of Excellence for Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering was set up at Keighley Campus Leeds City College early this year, and is run as a partnership between employers, Bradford Council and Oakbank School.

It features the latest in computer-driven machinery, computer-aided design software and 3D printers.

Business operations manager, Chris Stott, said: “The number of companies getting involved with the centre illustrates how well manufacturing in the area is performing. However, many young people are not aware of the opportunities in the sector.

“This is a great time for young people to get involved in engineering and manufacturing. There are jobs available, many of them well paid and with genuine career prospects.”

The centre of excellence at Keighley Campus is steered by a board of local employers, including Byworth Boilers, Keighley Laboratories, Advanced Actuators, Airedale Springs and Gesipa.
