TREES COULD be planted alongside a footpath trail in Cullingworth to reduce noise from a nearby gas flare.
Cullingworth Village Council is looking into planting substantial young trees along the Great Northern Trail as it passes Manywells.
They are acting on the suggestion of a resident who attended a recent council meeting to complain about an increase in noise nuisance.
The villager said that until recently a screen of trees had protected houses from seeing and hearing the gas flare, but these have been removed by contractors building housing on the former Manywells quarry site.
The Great Northern Trail, which runs from the centre of Cullingworth towards Harecroft, was developed by cycling organisation Sustrans and uses the route of a former railway line.
The villager said that land on either side of the trail was used as a wildlife corridor, so they would benefit from a line of new trees.
The village council will ask Sustrans for a plan of the trail boundaries.
