HAWORTH Parish Church should soon be featuring on people's television screens after being used as a filming location for two different BBC television programmes.

The historic Main Street building was visited by Strictly Come Dancing judge Len Goodman and Emmerdale star Lisa Riley for the production of one new series.

It also hosted filming for an episode of Songs of Praise, when it was visited by the presenter and church historian Richard Taylor.

Church spokesman John Huxley said Mr Goodman and Miss Riley had been in the church last Thursday, (August 13) while the filming for the Songs of Praise episode took place the following day. (August 14) "As far as we're concerned it was something a bit different, but it's very good publicity for the church," he said.

"Lisa Riley is apparently a regular visitor to Haworth, though Len Goodman had never been here before.

“It was wonderful to have both programmes use our church. Haworth attracts many media cameras during the year and we were very happy to host both programmes. We look forward to seeing them appear.

"I met Richard Taylor. He was charming, and he enjoyed his visit which was for a Songs of Praise episode celebrating churches with literary connections. We shut the church during the morning while he was involved in some filming."

Mr Goodman and Miss Riley's trip to Haworth forms part of a BBC holiday programme series due to be screened this autumn.

This latest series of Holiday of My Lifetime will see Mr Goodman taking a line-up of celebrity guests – including Miss Riley – down memory lane to relive their favourite childhood summer holiday.

A spokesman for the BBC said it should feature 15 45-minute episodes, and is due to be broadcast on BBC One from late autumn onwards.

Mr Goodman is a professional ballroom dancer and dance judge, who is well known for his appearances on programmes such as Strictly Come Dancing and Dancing with the Stars.

He was born in London in 1944 and began dancing when he was 19. He turned professional but retired from dancing in his late 20s after winning the British Championships at Blackpool.

Since Strictly Come Dancing began in the UK in 2004, he has appeared as head judge on the contest for BBC One, in all series of the show.

Miss Riley was born in Bury in 1976 and is best known for playing the role of Mandy Dingle in television soap opera Emmerdale. She also succeeded Jeremy Beadle as presenter of You've Been Framed!

In 1996 she won the National Television Awards for Most popular newcomer for her work in Emmerdale.

She signed up as a contestant on the 10th series of Strictly Come Dancing, partnering with Robin Windsor. The couple were eliminated during the semi-finals in December 2012.
