CULLINGWORTH councillors are addressing the future needs of the village’s war memorial garden in the light of Bradford Council cutbacks.
Councillors met with parks and landscapes officer Mel Smith to discuss what changes needed to be made to the gardens to make them easier to maintain.
It is suggested the front hedge be removed to open up the gardens as a green space in Halifax Road.
The flowerbeds could be planted with roses instead of bedding plants, and a small border left to allow seed planting as a project for local schools.
Councillors told Mr Smith two benches in the garden are missing, and offer was made to replace one of them if the Village Council would buy the other. Councillors subsequently voted to buy a bench.
The council will in November decide whether to approve a budget for small works in Cullingworth, such as clearing footpaths and providing grit for bins.
The council will contact Cullingworth Paths Association, which works with Bradford Council to clear footpaths, following a complaint about one overgrown path in the village.
