FIREFIGHTERS stopped a blaze spreading into a Keighley town centre bank early this morning.

Crews from Keighley and Bingley were alerted by police at 3am when burning rubbish was spotted behind the NatWest building in North Street.

Some smoke did seep into the premises and a special ventilation fan was used to help clear it.

"Fortunately the fire was extinguished quickly and the flames didn't spread into the building – the situation could have been a lot worse," said Keighley crew commander Andy Ball.

"The smoke didn't cause any damage."

The fire is under investigation.
