COUNCILLORS and committee workers rolled up their sleeves to clear up derelict land in Keighley.

The work was carried out at the Westfell Road green space in readiness for gardening and environmental activities for local people.

Gardener Steve Thorpe will really lead the sessions over the next couple of months on the land near Fell Lane.

The latest litter-clearing session included community development worker Pip Gibson, Shazad Kibria from Yorkshire Housing, and ward councillors Adrian Farley and Cath Bacon.

The quartet are involved in ongoing efforts to turn the Westfell Road site from an eyesore into a useful community asset.

Adrian said "I am delighted to see transformation. This piece of land has been neglected for some time. It would be great if residents joined us to make this an area that is loved once again."

Shazad added: "This is great for the area and hopefully residents will start taking pride in looking after the area and join in the environmental classes."

Anyone who wants to take part in the environmental gardening activities should e-mail Pip at or call her on 07587 210101.
