BOOK-LOVERS descended on Haworth at the weekend for the Brontë Society’s annual Festival Of Women’s Writing.

Brontë Parsonage Museum staff organised a series of events, including a clutch of appearance by comedienne and author, Helen Lederer.

Parsonage spokesman, Lauren Livesey, said: “The whole festival was a great success, with a succession of well-attended workshops and readings during the course of the weekend.

“Writing workshops on a variety of topics took place in the research library at the museum, at West Lane Baptist Centre and at the atmospheric Ponden Hall.

“We had some truly wonderful feedback from authors and participants. The evening readings from Alison Case and Helen Lederer fascinated and entertained ticket holders in equal measure.”

Lauren, who writes a monthly Brontë-related column in the Keighley News, thanked everyone involved, including authors, workshop leaders, participants and the team of “never-flagging” volunteers.

Alison Case read from her new novel, Nelly Dean, which retells the story of Wuthering Heights through the eyes of a supporting character. The novelist was also in conversation with Professor Gweno Williams from the University of York, discussing her love for Emily Brontë’s original novel and her own creative process.
