A POPULAR village gala could fold unless new helpers come forward.

East Morton Gala organisers say more volunteers are desperately needed to secure the future of the 54-year-old event.

The plea comes just a couple of months after one of the most successful extravaganzas yet, which raised over £4,500 for village causes.

"There is a serious doubt over whether the event can continue unless we get extra assistance," said chairman Kathy Myers.

"We've had three people come forward, which is good, but we are struggling.

"Two long-serving committee members have stepped down and that has left a big void of experience.

"There is a range of different roles that people can help with, in the run-up to the gala and on the day.

"And volunteers don't have to attend every meeting.

"It's always good to have fresh blood and new ideas."

Anyone interested in helping is invited to attend the gala's annual general meeting at the village institute at 7.30pm next Thursday (Oct 1).

People wanting to help but unable to attend the meeting can contact Mrs Myers on 01274 567174.
