A KEIGHLEY stairlift company is sponsoring a 1940s event for elderly people in the town.

A1 Stairlift Services is supporting the International Older People’s Day annual luncheon organised by Keighley and Ilkley Voluntary and Community Action (KIVCA).

The event, planned for Victoria Hall on Tuesday (September 29), from 10am, is a 1940s-themed afternoon of celebrations for people from that era.

The ticket-only event will have a range of activities including live bands performing wartime songs, a two-course meal, stalls and entertainment.

A1’s sponsorship is part of its strategy to help combat loneliness among the elderly, following its partnership earlier this year with the Friends of the Elderly charity’s Be A Friend campaign.

As part of the campaign A1 runs regular afternoon tea parties in its showroom in South Street, Keighley.

Managing director Simon Harrison said: “We’re big believers in supporting the local community, particularly among the elderly as with work with these people day in, day out and see the affect that loneliness has on their health.”

Tickets for the 1940s event cost £5 from Central Hall, Alice Street, or by calling 01535 665258.

Earlier this summer the company installed a free stairlift in the home of wheelchair-bound ex-dancer Dawn Chappell, as part of its Give Something Back to the Community campaign.

The firm is providing a fully-installed stairlift every month for a year to a deserving recipient.
