ACTIVITIES are being staged across the district celebrating the contribution made to communities by older people.

A series of events has been organised by Bradford Council and partner organisations to mark Older People's Week.

Keighley Elderly Initiatives Group held a 1940s event at Victoria Hall in the town on Tuesday.

There was music, dancing, stalls and a buffet.

A history walk takes place on Harden Moor from 2pm to 4pm on Sunday. The Champions Show The Way event will start from Ryecroft Road, adjacent to the moor, and will follow mainly easy terrain.

E-mail champions@bdct.nhs.uk or call 01274 321911 to book a place.

And on Tuesday, a drop-in event is being held at the village hall and community hub in Butt Lane, Haworth.

There will be a chance for older residents to try table tennis or zumba and sample e-books, iPhones and laptop computers.

Advice will be available on a range of subjects, from fuel efficiency and home safety to wills and power of attorney.

"Information about practical support will also be on offer from providers such as the Helping Hands project," said a spokesman.

The session, organised by Keighley area co-ordinator's office with support from other organisations, will run from 10.30am to 2.30pm.
