A COUNCILLOR has demanded clarity over plans to merge two Silsden schools in September 2017.

Andrew Mallinson plans to meet Bradford Council’s education chief to learn what form the merger will take for Aire View Infant School and Hothfield Junior School.

He said: “I will be making appointment with Cllr Susan Hinchcliffe to find out exactly what is going on.”

The council’s ruling executive last month agreed a recommendation to turn Aire View into a primary school, and close nearby Hothfield and transfer its children to Aire View.

It was unclear at the time whether this would mean physically moving both sets of children onto the Aire View site, or creating one school for administrative purposes but keeping children on the two sites.

Councillors Andrew Mallinson and Adrian Naylor, who represent Craven ward on Bradford Council, both believe there is no space on either site for both sets of pupils.

The long-term plan is to build a replacement school on a new site in Silsden, and councillors and Bradford officers have been looking closely at several potential sites in recent months.
