COMMUNITIES in and around Keighley have been invited to apply for a £10,000 grant to help improve the natural environment in their neighbourhoods.

The grant is one of two up for grabs as part of the TD Green Streets UK initiative – a partnership between Leeds-based TD Direct Investing and Community Forest Trust.

The scheme was set up to help fund environmental projects in West Yorkshire and Greater Manchester.

Community groups, local authorities or housing associations are eligible to apply.

This money can be used for any kind of urban forestry initiative, such as planting street trees or creating an orchard.

Carl Howard, commercial director for TD Direct Investing Europe, said: “This is all about making places greener and healthier.

"Whether it’s street trees, orchards, rain gardens, or a programme aimed at helping people look after their local communities, urban forestry has the potential to transform neighbourhoods."

The deadline for proposals is January 8 2016, and the two projects selected for funding will be announced in March.

Applicants should visit tdgreenstreets.co.uk to submit their ideas or call 0161 8721660 for more details.
