A PARKSIDE School student is taking a break from international concert performances to study for music exams.

Jasmine Colgan, a teenager at the Cullingworth school, is concentrating on Royal College of Music exams.

She won her first classical music singing competition at the age of nine then successfully auditioned for a part in Othello with Opera North.

She went on to tour with the company, performing in Leeds, Newcastle, Nottingham and Belfast.

She joined the Opera North Children’s Chorus which provides children aged eight to 14 with opportunities to further their musical education through the support of a professional opera company.

She sent with the chorus in A Ceremony Of Carols by Benjamin Britten and performed with the famous opera group Sixteen.

After a year with the chorus she was promoted she to the Semi Chorus, a group of 20 children who work on more complex vocal arrangements.

She was invited to sing for UNICEF in the South of France, an annual event where singers from around the world perform for charity. This year’s proceeds supported the Ebola crisis.
