A CHOIR which draws its members from across the region including Keighley has appointed a new professional musical director.

Skipton Choral Society has taken on Toby Wardman, who has conducted choirs and singing workshops across the north of England for the last 15 years.

A graduate of York University, composer and arranger Toby Flood took one of his groups to the final of a national choral festival.

The choir has also appointed experienced piano accompanist Jerry Davies.

Originally associated with the Skipton Camerata orchestra, the Choral Society has now become an independent organisation based in Skipton Town Hall.

It aims to build a reputation for regional excellence in music-making and develop fruitful partnerships with local musicians, schools and performance venues.

There are currently more than 55 singers, most of whom have sung in choirs for many years.

The choir’s first concert, entitled In The Midst Of Life, will feature John Rutter’s popular Requiem alongside a collection of shorter works on the theme of life and death.

The concert will be at Christ Church, Skipton, on November 22 at 7.30pm.

Toby said: “The choir demonstrates professionalism and commitment and I’m looking forward to helping it reach new heights, bringing many beautiful works to audiences in our region.”
