AN 18-year-old driver stopped for no insurance was almost three times over the drugs-drive limit, Skipton magistrates heard.
William Greenwood was stopped early on July 29 in Keighley Road, Steeton, after his VW Golf came up on police cameras as not insured, the court was told today (October 9).
When police looked in his car, they saw drugs equipment and a roadside drugs test proved positive.
He was arrested and taken to the police station where he was found to have 5.7 microgrammes of the active ingredient of cannabis per litre of blood. The legal limit is two.
Greenwood, of Jacksons Lane in Bradley, who admitted drugs driving and having no insurance, had just bought the car and had believed his existing insurance gave him third party protection.
A man of previous good character, who worked for the family business, he had smoked a cannabis joint in the morning on top of others the night before, the court was told.
Greenwood was banned from driving for 14 months, fined £150 and ordered to pay a criminal courts charge of £150, prosecution costs of £85 and surcharge of £20.
