MANORLANDS' Starlight Hike is expected to raise at least £35,000.

Organisers said this week they were delighted with how the event, on September 26, had gone.

More than 700 people took part in the annual extravaganza.

This year's hike featured a new twist, with participants enjoying a steam train journey aboard the Starlight Express on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway before beginning the 10-kilometre walk.

The route of the hike included the Starlight Avenue within the grounds of Manorlands, where people could hang a dedication star to celebrate the life of a loved one.

Walkers finished at Oxenhope Station, where they each received a goody bag and bacon sandwiches were served.

Manorlands senior fundraiser, Hayley Ibbotson, said: "Once all the sponsorship money comes in the total amount raised will probably exceed £35,000, which we are really pleased with. That's slightly up on last year.

"We have had some excellent feedback from people who took part. Everyone seemed to like the new Starlight Express element, and we are very grateful to the railway for its help with that.

"The route seemed to go down well too."

Event sponsors were the Black Bull at Haworth and Blazing Motorcycles.
