West Riding County Women's League First Division: Silsden 3 Battyeford Belles 1

THE Cobbydalers were made to work hard for victory in this meeting of the two remaining unbeaten teams in the section.

After a slow, scrappy start, with neither side taking the initiative, the visitors took the lead with virtually their first venture into the Silsden half.

This served as a wake-up call and Silsden went close on a couple of occasions, the best opportunity falling to Stacey Wood, who slipped with the goal gaping after good work from Elly Field.

The second half began with Silsden staying patient and continuing to press for the equaliser, and they didn’t have long to wait, prolific striker Mel Houldsworth being put clear by Leah Gilmore and sliding the ball past the oncoming keeper.

Houldsworth was at it again five minutes later when she was put clear by a superb ball from Becca Brown and finished in style to give Silsden the lead.

Battyeford continued to battle hard without really causing any problems for a well disciplined defence in which Sophie Gaines was on top form alongside her sister Bethany, who showed the qualities that had earned her a first opportunity with the first team.

Captain Vicki Oxley settled any remaining nerves when she met a corner full on the forehead to give the keeper no chance, and the remaining minutes passed without further incident.

West Riding County Women's League Third Division: Silsden Development 1 Amaranth 3

SILSDEN'S Development team took an early lead when Fatima Khatun squared the ball for leading scorer Lauren 'Bruno' Adams but Amaranth hit back to triumph and maintain their unbeaten record.

The home side are still looking to improve their squad, with an urgent need for goalkeepers, centre backs and central midfielders due to a mounting injury list that could hamper both of their teams' potential.

Both teams are away in the first round of the League Cup this Sunday – the firsts against Premier Division Tingley Athletic, and the Development are against First Division Leeds Medics & Dentists.
