Thousands of people turned out for the ninth annual Brontë Vintage Gathering at the weekend.

The two-day event, in Haworth Road, Cullingworth, raised £15,000 for Manorlands hospice, in Oxenhope.

Despite some poor weather the event was hailed a success by organisers, who had packed together a programme of activities, including "The Land-Rover of Destruction".

The car-crushing Land-Rover was just one of the attractions, which also included Dan Clarke's Xtreme Trials Display and a fly-past by a Second World War Spitfire.

Classic cars and steamers, including the famous steam engine Iron Maiden, were also on display and there was a beer tent with live entertainment.

Chairman of the Brontë Vintage Gathering committee Tom Jowett said he was delighted with how the event had gone. He said: "The forecast for the weekend was terrible and probably put some people off attending, but those who came had a great time and helped us raise a large amount for such a worthy cause."

There was also a dog show and a fairground for people to enjoy.

Sue Ryder Care fundraiser Andrew Wood said: "We owe a massive thank you to the Brontë Vintage Gathering committee, which has now raised over £135,000 for us over the past decade.

"In addition we'd like to extend our gratitude to the army of volunteers who gave up their time over the weekend and helped the event to run so smoothly."

He added that the money raised would help to provide services for Manorlands.
