HUNDREDS of steampunk enthusiasts in outlandish costumes filled Haworth's streets for one of the village's more distinctive events.

They flocked to the Worth Valley last weekend for the third instalment of the Haworth Steampunk Weekend.

The occasion saw people don top hats, black capes and goggles for the celebration of the increasingly popular subculture that blends Victoriana with science fiction to create a retro-futuristic alternate reality.

This year's event is expected to have raised more than £5,000 for Manorlands Hospice.

There were marching bands, dancers, burlesque performers, steam trains and classic vehicles, along with hundreds of steampunks of all ages from across the country – some from as far afield as Guernsey.

Haworth Main Street trader Nikki Carroll, one of the organisers, said: "It has been a fantastic weekend. It was cold but dry, which helped the turnout. We're already planning next year's weekend."
