KEIGHLEY’s biggest community centre will hold an open day tomorrow (November 27) as part of efforts to increase usage.

The event aims to raise awareness of Central Hall as a venue for both one-off events and regular groups.

Centre manager Julie Lintern will take people around the centre to see the range of offices, meeting rooms, large function spaces and public cafe.

She said: “I’m trying to attract people such as exercise groups and drama groups.

“I also want the public to see what Central Hall is like. Not everyone knows there’s a cafe, and others think it’s just for our internal use.”

Julie also hopes visitors will suggest possible new ventures for the Alice Street building’s 2016 programme, as well as enjoying free coffee and cake at Cafe Central.

Central Hall is run by the Keighley and Ilkley Voluntary and Community Action and was refurbished in 2011 with £1.8 million of lottery and Bradford Council cash.

The centre this month launched an appeal to replace its leaking roof.
