PUPILS at a Keighley School combined their creative talent with national remembrance by making their own poignant display of poppies.

The children at Worth Valley Primary School made poppies from a variety of materials, ranging from paper plates, cellophane to felt.

Once completed, these poppies were all attached to the fence outside their school.

The school staged an assembly attended by a pair of former soldiers, who also viewed the children's poppy display.

The guests were Andy Spence, chairman of the Keighley Armed Forces Association and his fellow ex-serviceman Paul Skinner.

Mr Spence is currently organising the town's next armed forces day. Mr Skinner set up the Keighley Community Through Unity group to help promote better relations between the town's different communities.

A spokesman for Worth Valley Primary said: "Andy and Paul talked to our children about the wars, why we wear poppies and also about the importance of remembering the sacrifices of others.

"Andy said he was blown away by the professional and friendly attitude of the teachers, and by the children who are a credit to the school."
