AN ANGRY father who beat up another parent outside a Bradford primary school after accusing him of stalking his wife has been jailed for eight months.

Royal Mail worker Sajid Arshad, 31, attacked Mohammed Nayeel after both men had dropped off their children at All Saints Church of England School in Little Horton Green, Bradford Crown Court heard.

Arshad's father, Mohammed Arshad, 54, joined in the assault in which Mr Nayeel was punched up to 20 times and kicked in head, at 8.45am on April 21.

The men, both of Hampden Street, Little Horton, each pleaded guilty at the magistrates court to jointly causing Mr Nayeel actual bodily harm. They were sent to the crown court for sentence.

Mohammed Arshad, who did not start the violence, was sentenced to five months imprisonment, suspended for two years, with a four month curfew order.

Prosecutor Robert Galley told the court yesterday that school caretaker, Michael Richards, witnessed the attack and pulled the Arshads off Mr Nayeel.

But Sajid Arshad resumed the assault, knocking him down again and kicking him.

Mr Nayeel sustained two black eyes, a burst lip, a damaged elbow and marks to his back. He now suffered sleepless nights and nightmares and still had pain in his head and body.

Father and son, both of previous good character, made no reply to police questions.

Sajid Arshad suggested that his wife had been harassed by Mr Nayeel but Mr Galley said no complaint was ever made to the police.

Ben Thomas, barrister for Sajid Arshad, said he believed Mr Nayeel was following his wife that morning.

A former pupil at the school himself, he regretted his behaviour and realised he should have done things differently.

"He wants to apologise through me to the school, parents and children for his unacceptable behaviour," Mr Thomas said.

Arshad was a hard working father of three who would lose his job if he went to prison.

Soheil Khan, for Mohammed Arshad, said he joined in the attack to support his son.

Judge Peter Benson told Sajid Arshad: "You were lying in wait for Mr Nayeel because you thought he was stalking your wife. You set about him and your dad joined in. Together, you threw 20 punches at him and he was kicked on the ground."

Sending Sajid Arshad to prison, Judge Benson told him: "People that attack people and knock them down and kick them repeatedly in the head must expect a custodial sentence."
