YOUNGSTERS at Merlin Top Primary Academy in Keighley are staging a Christmas tree festival.

Each year group has chosen a charity to support as part of the event.

Pupils made decorations and produced information booklets about their selected charities.

Parents have been invited to attend the festival this week, and the trees will be on display in Keighley's Airedale Shopping Centre today.

Helen Clegg, director of primary academies with the Northern Education Trust, said: "The Christmas tree festival is a wonderful opportunity to think beyond the celebrations in school and to focus on the needs of others during this time of great excitement for the children.

"The depth in which the pupils have researched and chosen their charities is impressive."
