WITHOUT a game for the previous four weeks, Baildon Trinity Athletic grew into their bottom-of-the-table West Yorkshire League clash at Ripon City and were unlucky to lose 1-0.

Trinity's ring-rust showed in the opening 20 minutes as Ripon, seeking only their second Division One win of the season, moved the ball around well.

But visiting wingers Johnny Reynolds and Andrew Radosevic started to see more of the ball and cause the home side's full backs a few problems.

The first chance of the game fell to the home side though, when a loose ball in the box was smashed towards goal, only to be thwarted by Baildon keeper Steve Sample.

Trinity finished the half the stronger and arguably should have been ahead after a couple of good chances for Radosevic and lone striker Lee Mathers.

After the interval, the visitors increased their presence, with Darren Rands pulling the strings in midfield.

This led to a couple more chances for the Baildon attack but it was beginning to look like it was going to be one of those days.

However, as the clock ticked on, the risk was always going to be that the home side would nick a goal against the run of play – and that's exactly what happened.

With eight minutes remaining, a poor clearance in Baildon's back line fell at the feet of the Ripon striker, who took a touch and fired beyond the goalkeeper.

Athletic player Elliott Moody said: "We could feel hard done by but, after not translating our superior possession and chances into goals, this is always the risk that happens, even at the highest level of football matches."
