I AM what’s known as an off-cumden – I only came to Silsden in 1971.
Every year, the river breaks its banks and floods the adjacent fields, sometimes twice a year, and every year it seems to get worse as the weather around the world changes.
This is a photo of the fields where Countryside Properties hopes to build new homes.
As you can see, it is an island surrounded by water, with the river to the south, the beck in the foreground and flooded fields beyond. Even if the houses are built above the waterline, the drains and sewerage pipes will be below the water table.
Also, I was all for the new Aldi supermarket, but if I had known how one car turning right into Aldi’s car park could in minutes cause a tailback around the roundabout on the A650, I would have opposed it.
Imagine if every home has two cars – it would be midnight before anyone got home.
