A LABOUR council leader has praised Tory MP Philip Davies for "sticking up for his constituents" regarding the devastation caused by the Boxing Day floods.
Mr Davies, whose constituency includes Cullingworth and Denholme, won a pledge from Government floods minister Rory Stewart that Bradford Council would be reimbursed for the massive clean-up operation.
His actions were spotlighted by Northumberland County Council leader Councillor Grant Davey, who contrasted them with alleged inaction by that region's two Tory MPs, whom he accused of failing their flood-hit constituents.
"I will continue to put the needs of my constituents first," said Mr Davies.
"I wanted assurances from Rory Stewart that Bradford Council would be reimbursed, as the clear-up costs will be huge.
"Residents and businesses affected by the floods will need a lot of help and support to deal with the immediate damage but also moving forward.
"I will do whatever I can to help my constituents and ensure the Government is kept informed of what needs to be done."
