A VOLUNTEER policeman accompanied specialist officers on motorbike patrols around Keighley before Christmas.

The Special Constable volunteered to undergo special training in his own time we could join the police’s anti-social behaviour bike team.

The team visited several hotspots in Keighley and Bradford that are regularly plagued by motorbike and quad-bike riders, including housing estates and off-road areas.

These included the Flappit quarry at Cullingworth, which is used by off-road is despite access being blocked with boulders, and the North Dean area of Braithwaite.

A police spokesman said local cyclists were appreciative of police presence, while some motorbike riders were issued with warnings for their behaviour.

A spokesman said: “While on patrol in some of these areas it was clear that quads, off road bikes and 4x4s are still being used illegally.

“The drivers / riders are causing damage to land/access points, putting public safety at risk and often riding illegally on the roads going to and from these locations.

“The ASB bike team are conducting enquiries into these incidents and further action will be taken against those responsible.”
