Brighouse Rangers 62 Cowling Harlequins 0

AFTER eight weeks off, Cowling conceded home advantage to ensure this Halifax ARL Joe Blackford Memorial Trophy tie went ahead.

It was never going to be an easy game but their task was made harder by the fact that they travelled with only 12 men due to players being unavailable through work.

Those 12 produced a sterling effort, which was not reflected in the final score.

Rangers ran in three early tries before Cowling came into the game, man of the match Daniel Spencer making huge yards which he continued to do all game. His efforts got Quins just under the sticks for Daz Greenwood to attempt a drop goal which just went under the bar.

The game slowed down in the mud but Steve Powell lead from the front and kept Cowling in the game at half-time, trailing 22-0.

In the second half Cowling threw everything at the Pennine League Division Three West leaders, spending the first 20 minutes in Rangers territory. They went close through Liam Mitchell and Dean Williamson but a breakaway try from the Brighouse full back knocked their confidence.

Rangers resumed full control and ran away with it but Cowling never gave up.

They visit Super League referee Richard Silverwood's Mirfield Stags on Saturday when they take on their A team (2pm).
