A LOCAL Morris dancing group has donated the proceeds of its charity collections to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Members of Oakworth Village Morris Men presented a cheque for £500 to Yorkshire Air Ambulance representative Vickie Sharp at an event in Haworth.

The suggestion to support the air ambulance was made by Morris Men group member John Crowley.

Nigel Yeo, squire of Oakworth Village Morris Men, said: "We were staggered at how much it costs to run the air ambulance service – £12,000 per day – and it receives no Government funding.

"So we decided to make our small but useful contribution. Every little helps and we are talking about saving lives.”

The Oakworth dancers are a male Cotswold side who perform in the Worth Valley area and collect for a variety of charities.

The group has been running for about 35 years and each year it leads Haworth's popular Scroggling the Holly and Torchlight processions.

Its dancers practice on Monday nights at the Oakworth Methodist Hall and are keen to welcome new members.

People interested in taking part can come along at 8pm on Mondays, or contact Mr Yeo on 07833 030046 for further information.
