KEIGHLEY councillor Adrian Farley has spoken in support of Fairtrade at a full meeting of Bradford Council.
Cllr Farley, a champion of Fairtrade activities in Keighley, seconded a motion by Cllr Hinchcliffe celebrating the 10th anniversary of Bradford district being declared a Fairtrade Zone by the Fairtrade Federation.
The council resolved to continue its ongoing support for the District’s Fairtrade status and the work of the Fairtrade movement in helping deliver social and environmental sustainability.
Zone status recognised efforts by district residents to support Fairtrade including Keighley becoming a Fairtrade town and Haworth becoming become the world’s first Fairtrade village.
Fairtrade goods, sold or used in many local shops, schools, businesses and churches, allow growers in developing countries to receive a fair price for their produce.
Cllr Farley said: “I have worked with Keighley Fairtrade for the past couple of years. Cllr Hinchcliffe knew I was passionate about it.
“I speak to a lot of people don’t believe in overseas aid – I say it’s about trade not aid.”
