A WOMAN from Haworth has signed up to a fundraising challenge to raise cash for Manorlands and to support her father, who has cancer.

Ashna Yates, of Lodge Street, is taking part in the 10-week weight loss challenge to raise £300 for the hospice.

She explained: "I started on January 21 and I want to reach my goal of losing two stone. I currently weigh in at 85.2 kilos and I want to end up at 65.3 or less by March 31st when I have my final weigh-in."

Mrs Yates, who has a brain tumour, says she wants to shed weight to help her look after her father, who has recently been diagnosed with lung cancer.

She said the news came as a shock because her dad, Rochdale resident James Ayrey, had always previously been extremely healthy.

Mrs Yates, who is a Haworth parish councillor, said she is exercising at truGym in Keighley and is aiming to lose weight gradually.

"My doctor has told me to take it slowly and not make myself ill," she added.

"My father has started radiotherapy and I know from experience how tiring it can be. I want to be able to be there for him in the same way he's been there for me."

People can visit justgiving.com/Kathryne-Ashna-Yates to sponsor her. People who know Mrs Yates and cannot access the online facility can also pick up paper sponsorship forms from her in person.
