PLAYERS from University Academy Keighley came second in the finals of a Bradford netball competition.

The Keighley school’s under-14s team scored their success at the Bradford District U14 Emerging Netball League.

The girls, who last year won the competition, overcame five other teams in the Bradford North League hit last December.

In late January they faced the finalists from the Bradford South league, playing against Thornton Grammar, Ilkley Grammar and Queensbury School.

Following elimination games the UAK girls ultimately faced Queensbury School, the eventual winners.

A school spokesman said: “The girls were disappointed but we think this is a huge achievement.

“They played really well and the other teams gave special mention to our captain Rukiyah Ali and voted Jessie Wilson as ‘Man of the Match’.”

In April the girls will watch professional teams Yorkshire Jets and Manchester Thunder play in the Netball Super League Series, as a thank you for their hard work.
