LOCAL people joined environmental volunteers to plant trees at an allotment in Guard House last weekend.

Bradford Environmental Education Service [BEES] helped plant and remove debris and old fencing on Friday at Keighley Community Allotment. (February 5)

The following day Forest of Bradford members were joined by local volunteers to plant 2,000 native shrubs including blackthorn, hawthorn, bullace, crab apple, guelder rose and hazel.

Community worker Shaun O’Hare said everyone was welcome to join in the creation of an urban woodland to manage the diversity, recreation and small-scale enterprise.

He said: “Create a new habitat, help manage an area or conserve a species – there is a wide range of tasks that can keep you busy for half an hour of the whole day."

The project is funded by Trees For Cities and Wren, and is supported by Keighley Town Council.
