WYKE Wanderers recorded a fine 4-3 win in their West Yorkshire League Premier Division match at Brighouse Old Boys.

The match was played on a 3g pitch with the first challenge resulting in a red card for Wyke’s Cameron Day.

Brighouse took the lead after 10 minutes from the penalty spot but Wanderers equalised five minutes later when Gavin Turner slid in at the far post.

The Old Boys restored their lead but just before the half-time break when Ian Horrocks was put through and slipped the ball past the advancing goalkeeper.

Horrocks put Wyke ahead for the first time in the match when he converted a penalty.

Karl Fawcett scored a fourth goal for Wyke before Brighouse scored a consolation goal late on.

Wyke secretary Dave Ryan said: “Our 16-year-old goalkeeper, Joe Haley, played well and all our four defenders were immense.

“The midfield worked tirelessly while Ian Horrocks worked really hard as a forward.”

Baildon Trinity Athletic came away from Kippax with a 1-1 draw in their Division One relegation battle.

Some firm words were heard at half-time from Baildon joint-manager Micky Haran, who encouraged his side to up the tempo.

This seemed to have worked as fifteen minutes into the second half, Trinity took the lead.

A set-piece just inside the Kippax half was drilled into the area by left back Lee Newall and was met by the head of defender Andrew Radosevic.

The lead though was short-lived and again it was a set-piece providing the key to goal as the home striker fired into the top corner on the half-volley.

Tempers spilled over with fifteen minutes to go when Baildon captain Elliot Moody took exception to a late kick-out from a Kippax player, causing a brief melee with players from both sides involved.

The referee took the choice to show Moody and a Kippax player red cards and reduce the game to 10 players in each team.

There was time for one last chance for Kippax but the forward put his shot over the bar from close range.

Wyke Wanderers Reserves lost 4-0 at home to Beeston St Anthony's Reserves in the Alliance Division One.

This was a good battling performance from Wyke against a team with a 100% record.

Hoi-Pin Truong and Sibu Mayo caused problems to the Beeston defence throughout the game with Mayo voted man of the match for his never-say-die attitude.

Field Reserves had no scheduled match.

In a closely-contested West Riding County Challenge cup tie, Field ran out worthy 2-1 winners against Campion.

A wayward pass enabled Field to take the lead through Nick Doherty.

Campion were awarded a penalty when Craig Nicholls was fouled but Jordan Missin saw his spot-kick saved.

Field increased their lead when Aidan Day created a chance for Josh Milner to score with a superb 25 yard angled shot.

Campion pulled a goal back through their substitute Allan Morley but it was too little too late.
