ROADSHOWS offering expert support to residents and businesses hit by the Boxing Day floods will be held in Keighley and Shipley next week.

The Flood Advisory Service is offering "on the spot" support following the devastating winter storms when rivers burst their banks damaging hundreds of properties.

Many affected are still struggling with repair and restoration work more than two months later.

Bradford Council has been working closely with The Flood Advisory Service to ensure homeowners and traders can easily access the advice and information they need.

The FAS is a ‘not for profit’ organisation providing free independent advice on practical flood mitigation and is bringing its roadshow trailer to the heart of the communities which suffered the most.

Bradford Council deputy leader, Councillor Val Slater, said: "I would urge anyone affected by the dreadful flooding on Boxing Day to go to one of these roadshows to find out what help is available to them.

"There is still time for people to apply for the Flood Resilience Grant to help with the installation of measures to help prevent further flooding or minimise the damage cause by future flooding in homes and businesses."

On Tuesday, March 15, the roadshow will be held at Victoria Hall, Keighley, and on Wednesday, March 16, in the car park of Asda in Shipley.

The FAS team and council representatives will be available to answer questions and offer advice between 10am to 6.30pm on both days.

David North, a senior housing officer at Bradford Council said: "As a council our priority must always be our residents and providing them with the very highest quality services.

"For the majority of home and business owners in the Bradford district, flooding is an unknown quantity, so when considering how we could best support them, working with the Flood Advisory Service made perfect sense."

Sarah Marriott, Flood Advisory Service managing director, said: "It was clear as the flooding situation in the Bradford district unfolded, the Flood Advisory Service was perfectly placed to provide information, advice and support the community was looking for.

"David North and the team at Bradford Council have been so pro-active and wasted no time in securing the help of the FAS to support their local residents"
