A BLAZE ripped through a workshop and garage at an isolated East Morton farmstead today.

Four fire crews were called out to tackle the inferno, which took about two hours to bring under control.

Some firefighters are still at the scene damping down and are expected to be there for most of the night.

Crew members pumped water from a nearby reservoir to fight the blaze at the site in Upwood Lane.

They managed to stop the flames spreading to adjoining living quarters, occupied by a family.

"Our priority was to contain the fire to the garage and workshop," said a Keighley fire service spokesman.

"Some smoke found its way into the house but we prevented the flames spreading.

"Because of the remote nature of the property we got two extra fire engines to the scene to utilise their water, and drew supplies from a reservoir."

He added that the garage and workshop were destroyed in the blaze, the cause of which is still under investigation.

The fire was discovered late this morning and crews from Keighley, Bingley, Idle and Shipley attended.

A smoke detector alerted the occupants, who escaped unhurt.
