A SEAT on Keighley Town Council will be filled via a co-option next month.

The Woodhouse and Hainworth ward seat has been vacant since Councillor Barbara Archer resigned at the beginning of February.

Keighley's town clerk has informed members no names have been put forward for the vacancy by ward residents, so a co-option process was begun.

People wanting to be candidates for this seat were able to give their names to the town council until Friday's deadline. Councillors will consider these applications and stage their own co-option vote on who they believe should join.

The clerk said: "Potential candidates were informed the co-option will take place at the council meeting on March 31.

"However, due to the bank holidays, the date the agenda was sent out and the closing date for applicants, there was only one clear day for council members to consider the co-option applications.

"In the opinion of the clerk, this was insufficient time for consideration. Candidates will be notified co-option will take place at the next full council meeting in April."
