KEIGHLEY'S Scout movement turned out in force for its annual St George's Day parade and service.

More than 600 members – including Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorer Scouts, the Scout Network and leaders – took part in yesterday's event.

The parade, led by the City of Bradford Pipe Band, set off from the Sainsbury's access road and made its way along Cavendish Street and North Street to St Anne's Church.

A salute was taken by West Yorkshire Deputy Lieutenant David Pearson, the Lord Mayor of Bradford Councillor Joanne Dodds and Keighley town mayor Councillor Javaid Akhtar, together with Scout movement representatives from the district and county.

The theme for this year's event was Cub 100, celebrating the centenary of Cub Scouting.

During the service several awards were presented including medals of merit to Bev Dickinson, Doug Hails and Joan Priestley.

Congratulations were given to Bob Schofield for 40 years' service and to Barbara Bradley and Heather Seymour for meritorious conduct medals.

A remembrance candle was lit by Freda Smith in memory of her late husband Jack, who gave many years' service to Scouting.

There was also a presentation by the Make a Wish foundation, Keighley Scouts' chosen charity for the second year in succession.
