KEIGHLEY Gala is gearing up to be a cracker.

Organisers are finalising plans for the charity extravaganza on June 5.

This year's event – the 140th – will begin as usual with the crowning of the gala queen, at 12.30pm in Town Hall Square.

The procession will set off from Spring Gardens Lane at 1.25pm and make its way through the town to Victoria Park.

Leading the parade as normal will be the penny wagon, which will be followed by a pipe band.

Also taking part will be gala queens, veterans, dance groups, bands, majorettes, schools, vintage vehicles and local organisations and businesses.

Among the attractions at the park will be a variety of local produce and charity stalls, the ever-popular Marshall's funfair and a now-traditional ducking stool run by Riddlesden Scouts.

There will also be performances by several of the bands taking part in the procession, followed by live music on the stage.

And the day will culminate with a dusk fireworks display, courtesy of Marshall's, staged by locally-based Optimum Fireworks.

Shona Brunskill, for the gala organising team, said: "We are still taking entries for the procession and stalls for the park.

"Any local craft/produce or charity stalls – tombolas, cake stalls etc – are welcome right up to the Saturday morning.

"And if anyone wishes to help they would be more than welcome, as our committee is very small and lacks enough people on the day to properly do the event justice."

Anybody able to assist, or wishing to get involved with the procession or at the park, should e-mail admin@keighleygala.co.uk or go to the We Love Keighley Gala Facebook page.
