A SCHOOL that raised nearly £9,000 for the Race for Life initiative last year has again rallied round to help people with cancer.

Staff and pupils at Sutton Community Primary School, alongside family members of the children, completed a five-kilometre course at Sutton Park on May 13 to raise money for this year's Race for Life to help Cancer Research UK.

All 205 children from the school took part, as well as 41 family members.

Fundraising family leader at the school, Kirsty Ibbotson, said: "Everyone dressed in pink and were supported all the way around the course by friends and families, who turned out to support them.

"By taking part in Race for Life and uniting together against cancer, we did something really special.

"As Cancer Research UK receives no Government funding for their research, we decided that the more of us who joined the fight against cancer, the more money we can raise to beat cancer sooner.

"I'd like to say a huge 'thank you' to all of our children and parents who took part. They are all amazing and have done an incredible thing. They helped to save lives."
