BLOCKED drains on a road in Oxenhope mean residents' properties are at risk of flooding the next time there is a torrential downpour, it has been claimed.

Ernie Lambert, of Moorhouse Court, said of 17 drains in Moorhouse Lane, only four or five are capable of handling any water on the road's surface.

Mr Lambert, 65, who owns a printing business, said: "We live in Moorhouse Court, which is situated at the bottom of Moorhouse Lane and Cross Lane – both steep hills.

"We are susceptible to flash-flooding when the gullies in Moorhouse Lane are blocked, as the two that we have in our courtyard, which we clean regularly ourselves, cannot cope with the water meeting at the bottom of the two hills and pouring into Moorhouse Court."

He said the courtyard was flooded following a heavy hailstorm last summer and fears this could happen again.

He has contacted the district council to voice his concerns.

A Bradford Council spokesman said: "If the problem has been reported to the council, it will be dealt with appropriately."
