KILDWICK Primary School has set up a school council with pupils from across the year groups.
Richard Hunt, the interim headteacher, said the youngsters had taken part in elections as a demonstration of the democratic process.
He said: “Following the British value of democracy, children applied for the available posts by completing a formal application form and stood for election.
“Votes were cast by constituencies (classes) and members were elected.”
The school council’s first task will be to support Mr Hunt and the governors’ interview panel in selecting a key stage two teacher for a vacant teaching post, to start in September.
