A HOST of entertainment and information was provided in Keighley's Airedale Shopping Centre at the town's first ever 'Dementia Fete'.

Saturday's event was organised by the Dementia Friendly Keighley (DFK) group.

People were treated to nostalgic songs from the 1940s and 50s performed by Kitty LaMare.

Haworth Ukulele Group kept the party atmosphere going with modern and traditional songs, and the fun was rounded off by local Singing for the Brain group The Singing Teapot.

Markmark Productions provided chaotic comedy with their walkabout show 'Edmund & Hilary'.

Maggie Marsden, of DFK, said: "Volunteers from Rotary Keighley, Town Centre Management and Yorkshire Building Society manned the tombola and various stalls, and Greggs supplied refreshments for the volunteers.

"We raised about £800. Of course the money is great, but the main purpose was to raise the profile of the work being done by DFK and other organisations to support people with dementia.

"There were representatives of four groups present – Alzheimer’s Society, Carers’ Resource, The Memory Tree and ourselves.

"We'd like to thank Airedale Shopping Centre's staff for their unfailing support in putting on the event."
