RAIN affected the whole of the Spenser Wilson Halifax League programme in one way or another – but there was a shock in the Premier Division as Jer Lane just clung on to top spot despite losing at lowly Thornton.

Jer made 219-6 off their 45 overs, opener Wayne Cotton leading the way with 56 aided by contributions from Imran Mirza (48) and Nasir Chowdrey (50).

Lane's total was reduced to 176-7 by rain and the home side extracted themselves from the section's bottom two with a fine performance.

They replied with 180-2 off 24.4 overs, Greg Soames (75) being the star of the winning chase aided by Michael Shanks (37no) and Nikki Hutchinson (36).

Division One produced only one winner as Oxenhope took over at the summit after triumphing at Great Horton Park Chapel.

The game hinged on a fine bowling performance from the visitors' Robin Cusdin, whose 6-33 included a hat-trick – four wickets falling while the score was on 67 – only for a last-wicket stand of 29 to boost the Chapel score to 129.

Oxenhope were 31-2 in reply before being helped home by Stuart Jackson (36) and Lewis Hopkinson (35no) in a five-wicket victory.

Queensbury were 207-5 in the 44th over before rain prevented any further play at home to Southowram, Scott Osborne scoring 74 and Jamie Priestley 46, while there was no play at all between Stones and Low Moor.

There were two positive results in Division Two, leaders Cullingworth successfully defending their 216-9 at Upper Hopton to win by 12 runs.

Cullingworth lost three early wickets on their way to 258-9, with Will Rankin (84), Graham Rankin (66) and Chris Welch (39) leading the revival. Rain reduced that total but Upper Hopton could only manage 204-6 off their 38 overs.

Denholme Clough stay second after a far-easier win at third-placed Shelf, for whom Leigh Butterfield's 64 contained a mighty ten sixes.

Clough made 265-9 (Waqas Ali 80, Imran Aslam 62, Neil Armitage 4-63), Shelf replying with 199 (Waqas Ali 4-47, Tanweer Aslam 3-33).

Clayton did not start at Luddendenfoot.
