HALTON Gill provided the ideal backdrop for West Leeds MC's annual Stan Pitts Trophy Trial on Sunday in Littondale, where 46 competitors battled for the coveted trophy.

East Morton's Martin Crosswaite was just too good for Dan Hemingway and Centre champion Phil Disney, of Cross Roads, on the hard course sections that ranged up the steep hillside and onto the moors above.

Hemingway was on target but failed section 14 on his third lap. Crosswaite also collected ten penalties for two failures on the same section. Jamie Stephenson just foiled Falcon contender Andrew Jackson for the Clubman A victory while Harrogate garden centre owner Rob Hardisty just pipped Pudsey's Mark Chippendale by one penalty for the Clubman Class B victory.

* Local riders impressed in Yeadon-Guiseley Motor Club's Acklams Beta British Ladies & Girls Trials Championship at Dob Park.

Gabby Whitham and Beth Dunning both enjoyed victories in their class.

The Youth A class proved to be a titanic battle between Top Team Trial rider Alicia Robinson and Inch Perfect Beta contender Whitham. The latter won on the day thanks to minder Sam Boocock, who spurred the Silsden girl at every section.

Crossflatts' Dunning was on fire after winning earlier events in Lincoln and Torridge, triumphing in her class again by beating Hannah Richardson by five marks.

* It was tough in the tropical heat that prevailed at Skyrakes Farm near Gargrave for the observers and the 67 Davy Cup Trial contestants.

Dave Pickles and his Bradford Motor Club team really tested the riders with a fairly average ten sections ranging right up the moor to the boundary wall, which were cleaned by many in all three classes, but the final four in the deep ravine at the top of Manor Farm wood did sting.

Glusburn's Nathan Wrigglesworth won the expert class ahead of John Sunter, with Disney in third.
