A KEIGHLEY drugs and alcohol agency has received a prestigious award that will give the charity the support of an expert business mentor.

Project 6 will also be able to access advice from the Garfield Weston Foundation, which helps charities become more sustainable.

The Weston Charity Award will provide full funding so the Temple Street organisation can work for a year with Pilotlight, which offers the services of experienced mentors.

There will also be an upfront £6,200 payment to help Project 6 maximise the support and cover travel expenses to meet the mentoring team in London.

"We are delighted to have had our work recognised through this award," said Vicki Beere, chief executive officer at Project 6.

"This award will allow us to work with business mentors and leaders to ensure Project 6 is here working for the people of Keighley in ten years' time."

Philippa Charles, director of the Garfield Weston Foundation, said supporting charities is crucial.

"Our job is to help charities become more resilient so they can continue to do their excellent work – that's why we launched the Weston Charity Awards," she added.
