MANORLANDS is preparing for its 40th annual garden party.

A host of attractions is lined-up for the fundraising extravaganza, in the grounds of the Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice.

The event, on Sunday, July 10, will be officially opened by BBC Look North presenter, Harry Gration.

"It is a pleasure for me to be asked to open the garden party," he said.

"The hospice does such valuable work in the community and needs ongoing support for it to continue."

The party – from 1.30pm to 4.30pm – will feature a range of stalls, selling everything from books, cakes, plants and home produce to bric-a-brac, linens, crafts and jewellery.

There will be live entertainment catering for all ages, as well as tombolas, a raffle and auction.

The event is being sponsored by Clever Energy Boilers, which will also have a stall.

Director, Paul Calvert, said: "We are really proud to sponsor the garden party.

"Manorlands and Sue Ryder do fantastic work and, as a Keighley-based company, we are pleased to be able to help this important local cause and support the hospice with its incredible work."

Senior Manorlands fundraiser, Hayley Ibbotson, said plans for the day were well advanced but she appealed for more donations of items to sell.

"A newly-established committee has been working hard to get all the plans in place to make the 40th year the best yet, and it's poised to be a great day," she added.

"We've had some very generous donations towards the stalls – particularly prizes for the raffle and auction – however we still need the help of our local community to ensure it's another success and brings in vital funds for the hospice, so donated items for the day would be very much appreciated."

Anyone able to help is asked to e-mail Manorlands.fundraising@suerydercare.org or call 01535 640430.

Goods can be collected, by volunteer drivers, if necessary.

An appeal has also been issued by estate agent Dacre, Son & Hartley, which is holding a bottle tombola at the event.

Michael Leighton, manager at the company's Keighley office, asked people to drop-off bottles at branches.

"Manorlands does a wonderful job helping people and their families during very difficult times," he added.

"Our firm is very much involved with the community and we're delighted to be able to lend our support to the garden party.

"Our bottle tombola will be a fun competition with a huge range of prizes, from wines and beers through to bottles of pop and tomato sauce. We're hoping to collect a couple of hundred bottles, so we're keen to attract as many donations as possible."
