PUPILS at a Keighley primary school took part in an event to give them early guidance on what careers they might consider later in life.

The careers fair was staged at Merlin Top Primary Academy last Thursday.

Business leaders from across the district visited the school to inspire and stimulate the interest of youngsters.

Speakers visited each class and provided activities to engage with the children.

A Huddersfield-based group called Think Forensic organised sessions focusing on fingerprinting.

Two representatives from West Yorkshire Police attended and gave children an insight into their work and how they ended up becoming officers.

Pupils also met entrepreneur David Longbottom, engineering student Tom Powell and Steve Seymour, from Keighley's Airedale Shopping Centre.

Other companies and organisations taking part included the Future Skills Academy, Airedale Enterprise, AMP Awards, the Colour Experience and Jamie’s Ministry of Food.

The careers fair was jointly staged by the school and Bradford Pathways.

Amerjeat Sarai, enterprise enablement officer at Bradford Pathways, said: "This has been designed to help the pupils understand there are various ways of getting into different job roles, including routes for children who are very academic and those who are more vocational."
