A NEW history book about Oxenhope's experiences of the First World War will be formally launched in the village tomorrow evening.

The book, called Oxenhope In The Great War, was mostly written by village resident Norma Mackrell, with one chapter contributed by Catherine Snape, of Addingham, who was born in Oxenhope.

It is being officially released on a date coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the death of Oxenhope man Thomas Herbert Heaton, who was killed at the Battle of the Somme.

The book will be on sale locally from Saturday.

People can call 01535 642325 or e-mail oxenhopeinthegreatwar@gmail.com for a copy of the £15 book, which can be delivered locally.

Profits from the 600-page volume will be donated to Manorlands Hospice.

The book features 400 photographs and includes details of life on the home front in Oxenhope during the war, and the impact caused by at least 370 village men being called away to fight.
