A PAIR of seven-year-old twins from Haworth have come first and second in a regional embroidery contest.

Leela Burnett came first in the five to nine-year-old age group part of the Yorkshire and Humber competition, which took place at Riccall in North Yorkshire. She had designed and made a tortoise shell cat stuffed toy.

Her twin brother, Ellis, came second with his own creation of a cushion featuring a fish design.

The children's work, which was specially made to fit in with the competition theme of All Creates Great and Small, has now been put on display at the Bankfield Museum, in Halifax.

Leela and Ellis, who both attend Haworth Primary School, are members of the Airedale Branch of the The Young Embroiderers Guild.

Their grandmother, Sylvia Thompson, said: "They've been doing this for about a year and they love it. They feel over the moon to have done so well."

Their mum, Amanda Burnett, said: "I'm thrilled by what they have achieved, especially as so many things in life these days involve instant gratification.

"I'm so proud of them."
